(This Is) The Dream Of Evan And Chan
Dntel
The prequel to The Postal Service, Evan and Chan is the kind of love song that’s so specific that it is perfectly universal. The fact that it’s literally about a dream is poignant, too.
Naked Girl
The Velvet Teen
I was OBSESSED with this song around Valentine’s Day last year. I started writing a short film just so I could end it with this song. The final movement (can’t really call it a verse) just does it for me.
First Day Of My Life
Bright Eyes
Classic. Shit on Conor Oberst all you want, but his childlike innocence is the ideal perspective of love. “I think this time is different, I mean I really think you like me-ee-ee-ee-ee-ee.”
Coney Island
Death Cab for Cutie
I couldn’t not include Death Cab somewhere in here. Coney Island is such a romantic setting in my mind in its own right. Another very innocent song about the ephemeral nature of love. This is also Ben Gibbard’s second appearance on the list, if you’re keeping track.
Somewhere Across Forever
Stellastarr*
New Home, New York. I’ve been livin’ here without you.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs
I’m a sucker for lilting upper registers, as #2 and #3 show. This song is getting a lot of unfair attention (keeping in mind that in my world, popularity is bad) due to Rock Band. Damn shame.
Noi Boi
The Velvet Teen
I loved this song before I knew the lyrics. Then I read the lyrics and now I approach tears every time I think about it. The second Velvet Teen song on this list, but I couldn’t help it. I love the Teen. Judah Nagler’s voice makes me melt.
All Is Full Of Love
Björk
This is literally the most beautiful song I have ever heard, hands down. Björk can be deathly inaccessible at times (most of the time), but you know what? So can love.
